Description:
This home movie documents a housing dedication at the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Tigua Indian Reservation in 1976. Tigua Chief José Granillo cuts the ribbons on the housing development alongside Senator John Tower and Representative Richard White. The new reservation housing was made possible after the Tigua's long fight to receive state recognition (1967), then federal recognition (1968), as an American Indian tribe. This tribal status made the development of a residential reservation through grants possible. After the ribbon cutting, the celebration continues with Tigua tribe members in traditional dress performing tribal dances hand-in-hand with El Paso citizens. Later, tribe members receive the keys to their new homes.
