In the decades before home video, home movies and television were at odds–different technologies competing for people’s attention. One was created at home, one was came into the home by waves and wires. Nevertheless, people found ways of mixing the two, either by filming their television screen, capturing forever the fleeting images of the national network or local programs, or else by going behind the scenes of the television industry.
